Ann,

Not specifically art-related, but easily adapted to such: The
University of the Pacific, in Stockton, CA, offers grad credit for
travel experiences from which a teacher has developed curriculum units
or reports
http://www.acis.com/resources/downloads/UniversityofthePacificPDUPacket.pdf.
The student can choose how many credits she would like to earn, and the
university sends a list of what needs to be accomplished. I did this
twice, after trips to Turkey and Ecuador, making a point of
investigating the local cultures and arts, and was able to develop truly
useful units for weaving and ceramics. The cool thing is, you can write
off a lot of your expenses! The travel and unit plan have to be
approved beforehand. For your practicing artists, they may be able to
study abroad and earn credit.
