With XP you just go to "Connect to" and find the available wireless router -
it will only give you choices where routers are available, so it's not a
difficult decision. If one router won't work try another one - hotels will
often have more than one wireless set-up, but one will be firewalled for
hotel usage. If you take a ethernet cord you should just be able to plug it
in and go. If you are using a school laptop make sure you log in at your
school before you leave. I have seen this happen several times - teachers
check out a laptop to take with them, after being assured that everything
will work fine, only to arrive at their destination to discover they are
locked out of their computer because of this simple step. Before you leave
you might play around with finding these options while you can still ask
questions - there is nothing more disappointing than getting all set up &
not being able to access your internet. Oh - another thing to be aware is if
you are using a school laptop you should find out the TCP/IP address before
making changes so you can access the internet at school again. My laptop at
school is configured so I can bypass blocked sites so I always have to go in
and reconfigure.
