I think there is some kind of factor that your finger oil on the bulb itself causes
it to wear out sooner, and they are sooo expensive

I got a projector from my principal the day after my request. We used
it for
everything - especially slide shows for parents at conferences. The
bulb (about $350) did
finally burn out. I assumed that was it for using my projector. To my
surprise a guy came
out the next day to replace the bulb. It's fine if they didn't trust
me to do it. He said
sometimes the old bulb blows up inside the projector. It's also
important to "never"
touch the bulb - use a cloth when handling. I was lucky - my
principal was married
to the assistant superintendent of the school district so I got most
of my requests.
