No - no apple care contract. But we have had it for almost 4 years and
no problems at all.
But, as I opened it up to try the battery thing, lo and behold - the
desktop appeared again. Maybe it was tired from everyone home over the
holidays -
Thanks for the posting info, and I will make sure I will write down the
apple number too - nothing like looking at a blank screen wondering how
to call someone for help and no access to search a number.

suggest that you take the battery
out and then put it back in. It might solve the problem - it sure
would not hurt anything.
