I don't have a whole lot of experience with this, either, but a friend
gave me some really good advice when I found myself in a similar
situation: always add 1/3 of the estimated cost to the total that you
turn in so that you have room for those things you forgot to add, or
don't have enough of, or if you decide to use a different product
mid-project.

This ended up being really good advice, as the project ended up being
more expensive than I originally thought. I also ended up having
supplier issues and needed that cushion of a little extra money while
I was ironing things out.
