Tanya--I'm sure you have a long list of city art by now, but here are
some more ideas. The Phillips Collection in Washington. DC has a
wonderful Art of the City teaching kit with many resources. You can
see excerpts or order it from the website:
www.phillipscollection.org The Phillips' Jacob Lawrence Migration
Series teaching kit also has many urban images. The information from
these kits can be usefully combined with The Met's online stroll
through Bearden's "The Block."
From the Phillips' website: "Art of the City Teaching Kit
Art of the City, an award-winning teaching kit for educators (K–12),
presents innovative educational approaches to urban works of art from
The Phillips Collection including Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, and
Paul Klee. From train stations to sports stadiums, these images have
been selected for their accessibility to children. By addressing
themes such as transportation and community, the Art of the City
Teaching Kit and teacher programs connect art to social studies,
language arts, math, French studies, and ESL. To meet specific
National Standards of Learning, this kit was developed with teachers
across the curriculum."

A Bearden-influenced picture book that K-6 students LOVE is Bryan
Collier's Uptown.
Let us know what you do with the city images!
