Dear Art Educators,

I just discovered this today....
Genesis: Ideas of Origin in African Sculpture
A past exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A catalog is
available (for only $30.00 for non members)
http://www.metmuseum.org/store/st_family_viewer.asp/familyID/%7B5577F59D-0122-11D7-94CD-00902786BF44%7D/catID/%7B2381C7C0-BEA1-11D3-936D-00902786BF44%7D
Amazon has several used books for $20.00 and under.... I am tempted to buy it.

Here is more about the exhibit:

Several images from the exhibit are on line.

Ci Wara dance (Bamana people, Mali) videos may be viewed here:

"How did the world begin? What is our ancestry? What is the source of
agriculture and of kingship, and other societal institutions? African
cultures seek to provide answers to these questions through elaborate
interwoven traditions of oral history, poetry, and art. Genesis: Ideas
of Origin in African Sculpture explores how artists in 17 distinct
African cultures have interpreted these ideas and sought to answer
these questions...."
"Genesis: Ideas of Origin in African Sculpture seeks to shed light on
the act of human creation as a broad and recurrent theme of African
art."

I will be adding a link to this exhibit on my African Art Links page:
