I am so excited about NAEA in New York! I am taking a week off from work,
and my family will fly up with me the weekend before the convention so we
can see New York together. My children have never been before. I myself have
only been a few times, and not in the past 7 years or so.
I am presenting twice.
1) Thursday, 2:00-2:50pm:
"Winter Trio-Snowflakes, Poinsettias, and Doves: Fresh Projects that
Celebrate the Season"
Catalog Description:
A new approach to snowflake design-no folding/cutting required; O'Keefe-inspired
poinsettia painting project that encourages unique color choices and blends;
peace dove paper collages inspired by Picasso and Matisse.
2) Friday, 9:00-10:50pm: Hands-on Workshop Studio
"Overcoming Creative Block with Soft Block Carving"
Catalog Description:
Participants will design and carve small-scale relief images on vinyl eraser
and soft blocks. Printing multiples will allow participants to experiment
with various papers and inks and to share their images with peers.
Participants will be able to embellish their prints and design business
cards, notecards, and/or minibooks.
That description is not what I had submitted for them to put in the catalog
as my 30-word description; it was excerpted from my proposal's more detailed
300-word description of the presentation. I guess they found my own 30-word
catalog description lacking:
"Carving vinyl erasers is a fun creative outlet for busy educators. Come
carve a collection of small images to print and share; learn about the
fascinating world of art stamping."
I don't mind the switch, but they omitted ATCs as one of the things that
particpants might make; I wish they'd included ATCs instead of business
cards. Oh well! I'll have materials on hand for both.
