You know, I've thought about doing that...but I've been afraid to. I have
this fear that most of them will want to sit on the "non-learning" side and will
be completely disruptive, preventing me from teaching those few who want to
learn. I guess I believe that these kids are really SO unmotivated that they
would not care about failing my class. Honestly, I have 7 in that class who
have an "F." Progress reports go home tomorrow, and I'm hoping that some of
them will wake up, but I really don't think that too many will be bothered. I'm
thinking about planning some extra credit opportunities for those
students...writing essays. I think that maybe one or two might take advantage of it, but
I'm not sure. I did remove three students today and made them stand against
the wall. They took it as an opportunity to do their own thing. They threw
things at the students who were still in their seats trying to learn. Of
course, I never saw who threw what and only heard the kids complaining, so I
couldn't do much about it...but I'm running out of ideas. I have given the dean the
whole behavior history on them, and she's supposed to start calling kids
out...but I wonder if that will do any good.
