Hey guys,
I'm thinking about trying out Heather Leal's lesson, "I Have a Dream." Since
I have oil pastels and newsprint, I thought that the kids might enjoy a
project like this. Of course, I don't have much time to pull it together. I'm
printing out Martin Luther King's speech, and I'm hoping to print out some images
by Jacob Lawrence. I'm researching some info on the Harlem Renaissance. Do
any of you have any suggestions as to how I can create a concise lesson for
the kids to start tomorrow? What points would you make sure to include? There
is so much info on this lesson that it is simply too much for me to read up
on. Plus I don't have any of the videos or resources it calls for. I want to
go over the speech, perhaps have the kids read sections of it and then discuss.
I would like to show some images of art from the Harlem Renaissance and give
a brief introduction on what it was all about. I'm going to make a trip to
the book store to see if I can find any books that would be suitable. Since my
projector at school is broken, I will have to laser copy images for each
table. Any help would be appreciated. I need SIMPLE or else my head is going to
explode! Thanks.
