Maybe do a 'creative' challenge where you include those materials - and
offer a variety of other 'extras' - let the kids create a sculpture, a toy
- who knows what they could come up with? Then they could present what they
made -
I tied something like this to an economics lesson one of my classes was
doing -
We talked about how the US sends some of our cast off or junk to poorer
countries - we just received a shipment of 'junk' and we start creating
something with it that becomes in demand (telephone wire baskets for
example)
I use "Recycled/Reseen: Folk Art from the Global Scrap Heap" with it.
Some have access to really good 'extras' so they can barter with other
tables.
TP tubes make great marble runs - but I still think if I had tons - I would
just have a great day of creating with the kids -

Subject: [teacherartexchange] toilet paper tubes and egg cartons
On my "donations" list at the beginning of the year I
included toilet paper tubes and egg cartons. Holy
cow, I have SO many toilet paper tubes and egg cartons
now. I originally included it on the list because I
thought we could use them, but now we have sooooooo
many. Does anyone have any good art projects for
grades K-4 using those materials? I saw earlier the
idea of cutting rings from the tp tubes and gluing
them together to create an ornament. I think they
would be nice as a sculpture too. Some could be
spirals or swirls, or like little bridges. I tried
this and spray painted it gold and it looked great.
Any other ideas?? Marcia in WI
