In a Democracy with a strong "Bill of Rights" which was
secured through a violent revolution, I find your suggested
lesson about "legal" art insulting. Or perhaps it is really
the "Tongue and Cheek" suggestion it appears to be. The best
art is "In Your Face" art that confronts the establishment
rather than coddling it. Let's teach our students to stand
up when it is necessary and battle the evils of the world.
Why not lessons about "Hunger", "Poverty", "War" or
"Abortion". Those are real reasons to do art. Of course if
you want a safe, nice issue pick the "Environment". Of course
this argument against "Nice" art comes from a person who
paints very safe "nice" subjects.
