I am catching up on post so this may have been answered.
Do you have SCRATCH paper? This is thinner and needs shiskabob stick cut
down,to a pencil length AND a light touch.
Secondly you asked how to make your own? manila file folders trimmed
down... get 4 small panels from each. than on a piece of scrap paper
larger than the panel cover whole surface bearing down heavily with crayon
OR oil pastel. Use light colors. Separate the brown navy blues, and black
out of the item you are using. Flick, or pick off the goobers (the three d
lumps that occasional appear) Than.. experiment on a small scale with the
following. India ink, black tempera, and liquid hand soap. I am such an
old bat that I just pour ink into a snap lidded yogurt container ( qt
sized) and add a squirt of black TEMPERA and a healthy squirt of liquid
hand soap.. stir.. Than I apply one strip on the board with a soft brush ..
big as you can find. or a foam brush.. I let dry.Than I try a scratch tool
on it. It the B lack comes off smoothly with no crazing or funny stuff, I
am go to go. Over wise I add more tempera or soap. It will not be jet
black. It does not need too layers. AND, you should scratch pretty soon
after covering. Don;t wait like a month because it seems the ink mix
penetrates into the crayon over time.
HOw to get an image on it... several ways. My student plan our on a
photocopy paper the same size. Than lay it on top and press over the main
lines with a ballpoint pen. It helps to put a couple of tabs on the paper
of tape so you can lift and peek to see if you are getting a dented line..
you can take a tiny brush and cover up mistakes...BUT it does not rescratch
well.
