[teacherartexchange] Soda Straw Weaving - Tie in with Black History Month

---------

Greetings Art Educators,

I can no longer share the link from the Disney site where I originally
found the connection of soda straw weaving to Black History Month.
Disney claims copyright of the lesson and their terms of use (on the
site) do not allow the lesson to be used in the classroom - only home
use.... and you can not print off - OR even post the lesson without
their permission.

I wrote for permission to post their lesson and permission to use the
lesson on Incredible Art Department, but have not heard back from them
(and do not expect to)

Here is a lesson you may be able to use. You can adapt it to connect
to any African culture that does weaving.
http://www.kid-at-art.com/htdoc/lesson9.html
You can use any number of staws (the Disney lesson used 4)
You can start with any length of yarn (the Disney lesson started with
3 - 36" lengths)
I am using my Fair Use defense to post these facts from their lessons.

I will let you know if the link I just posted can be used by
teachers.... I am writing for permission (as this site claims all
rights reserved.... I may have to keep surfing for one you can use).

If ANY one does the soda straw weaving in connection with any culture,
please send me your student work - one sample for the lesson. Folks
ask all the time for fiber arts lessons - and this is an easy one.

Regards,

Judy Decker
