How about their favorite cartoon or movie characters. Pop art is about
popular characters to them. How about their favorite sports figures. I would
say "no" to unappropriate subject manner in school. I tell them that the
principal would not approve or sometimes I say I will not allow certain
things in my classroom. I have never had a problem and they understand. They
seem to know what is not appropriate and will try to push the envelope like
kids always do. This works wih my school population. I teach 1-4.
