Dear Art Educators,

I am trying again to entice someone to use Barry Kite's work to spark a lesson.
See Aberrant Art:
http://www.aberrantart.com/
Chuckle....Aberrant means - not typical: deviating from what is normal
or desirable
Microsoft(r) Encarta(r) Reference Library 2003. (c) 1993-2002
Microsoft Corporation.
(permission granted to use their definition).

"Barry Kite's style of social and political parody via the
"re-positioning" of art historical and contemporary media imagery has
won him several art competition awards and placed his work in numerous
private and corporate collections." Kite combines photographic and
hand-coloring techniques to create the foundation of his current work.
For most of the past 25 years, Barry's work has been cut-and-paste:
done by hand, no computers. Recently however, he acquired a large
format digital printer and has been playing around with
Photoshop--which may become a more prevalent tool in the future.

I have a statement from Barry Kite on what he thinks of copyright law
and will add that to the lesson.

To protect yourself, select masterworks of art that are in public
domain (as for the most part, Barry's are). Then alter away. I think
the kids would have a blast doing this.

Barry does all of his cut and paste the old fashioned way - but you
can do it digitally, too.

If anyone does a composite images lesson like this - please let me
know. I want it on Incredible Art Department.

Regards,

Judy Decker
