Hello all
after searching for over 2 yrs, I finally landed a art
teacher job! I need some assistance in what rules to
implement from day one though.
First let me tell you abt the job:
Its in a K-6th grade charter school- I was to do "art
on a cart" when the principal suggested that I can use
the gym/lunch room.
The only thing that is in this room are the long
tables, there is no water source close by, no storage
and the room itself is very large and can get really
NOISY!
I am part time for 4 hrs a day, with 3 classes for
only 45 minutes- I will have ALL of the kids in the
entire school for 4 days a week. I am guessing I will
be seeing one class at a time per week. I can only
have lessons for 1/2 hr as again, there is no storage
for any long term projects and the kids must do the
project, I have to "grade them on the fly" and then
they take the project with them.
I need some kind of rules and need to enforce them the
first day of class- the kids HAD an art teacher last
yr, but acted like it was play time and the other art
teacher had NO control over the classroom. They have
not had art this school yr, well not till I start Jan
30th.
I would also appreciate any direction on lesson plans
that will only last 30 minutes. I have some but they
are for one hr, including explaination/samples, and
clean up.
I am figuring at least 5 minutes for roll and getting
the kids ready, 5 minutes for modeling, then 30
minutes for doing art and at least 5 minutes for
cleaning up.
Another thing I was warned abt, these kids do not feel
that they have to clean up after themselves- there is
no way I want to be doing this 3 times a day for 4
days a week. I need to somehow make them resposible
for all cleaning up after the project is done.
Thank you for all your help in advance.
