I've been following your plight. I'm sorry it is so rough!! Don't give up. It will get easier as you find lessons that work for you and classroom management strategies that work for you. What works for other teachers may not work for you. I could never handle complicated systems because I couldn't make myself keep track of points or whatever.
I would say that contour drawing of hands is too hard for an unruly group. It is such a "right brain" activity that they are not comfortable with it and don't get the idea of the distortion being interesting. Instead try drawing art supplies or other fairly simple objects and then divide up the page and color in the spaces. You can show examples of cubism or not. Check out the book "Hooked on Drawing" by Sandy Brooke. She has some really great lessons that don't require much in the way of materials. Oh, one liner drawings a la Picasso have always been a hit for me. I have them do 4 then have them divide up and color their favorite and mount it on colored paper.
Oh and I hated having students bring their own supplies because they would get lost and so much time would be spent looking for their supplies....but it is terrible that the school hasn't bought your supplies yet. That is just impossible! Can you charge an art fee or even get an art supply store or company to make a donation to your school?
Keep the faith. You have lots of people rooting for you!!!
