Linda: I love your story! It reminds me of my elementary years (and I was
in a top-knotch school system in the Washington DC suburbs...) There was
nothing magical at all about those "good old days" as some politicians like to
call them... and in the days before my early years it was even worse education
wise. In those days many people did not finish high school and if you had
special needs of some sort you might be left out entirely. I've a friend whose
uncle was deaf and was simply never allowed to attend school! (in the '30s and
'40s) So we have to be very suspicious of the political sorts who talk about
those good old days.
