RE: assessment in the visual arts

One thing that I do (I've written about this before) to help myself when
I write comments on each student every year is to create a digital
portfolio for each class. I create a table in MS word that has one
column, 20 rows long. I put each child's name in a row. From that point
on, I drag and drop photos of everything they do into their portfolios.
It takes me no more time than if I wrote notes for each piece as I
graded it, as I used to do. It combines it all into one step. I can
write anything I want to in each child's row, and when I am ready to
assess, or write comments, I can see everything the kid has done all in
one place. I can easily spot inconsistency, growth, things a kid needs
to work on, strengths, etc. It's a Godsend. My comments are so
meaningful now. Thinking back to my elementary report cards...is it too
late to sue, haha...just kidding. NOT ONE COMMENT IN SIX YEARS!!!!!
Pathetic.
