For seven years now I have been looking at the issue of censorship
in schools. Many of you know this. In New York I took the Violence
Prevention class required of all teachers now. There was one
message that stopped me. It had to do with increasing
responsibility for art teachers to notice when student drawing
might indicate a problem. We were informed that we had to involve
our admin/guidance staffs when we saw something disturbing, because
later, if something happened later on with the children who were
making violent images -- and we had not reported it -- we could be
liable. We. The art teachers. Could be liable. What does your
school/district/dept of ed for your city, etc. say about this
issue?
