Hi Everyone,
I have some expensive pottery pieces as part of my private collection and not a single one of them is glazed on the bottom.

Subject: Glazing on the bottom of clay wall plaques and tiles ?

  Hi All,

I am wondering if/when one would glaze the bottom (back/underneath) of a small clay piece, flat, to be hung on the wall. According to a coworker, clay looks unfinished when only one side is glazed. She does use the tripod furniture underneath, but I am still wondering if this is necessary. I haven't taken clay classes for over 20 years (nor has she) but I do the basic stuff with each of my classes every year. I don't know lots, but I do know the basics. Glazing the bottom just seems wrong or at leaset dangerous. This gal is pretty headstrong, and I could clearly tell that she thinks that my projects don't look 'finished' 'cause I don't' have my kids glaze the underneath of small plaque type projects. Any ideas besides leave her alone?
