Hey all! I don't know if any of you are interested, but I just had the most
amazing experience with a "special topics in literature and art" class I've
been co-teaching.
Initially, the group wasn't working well together (18 seniors) and didn't
seem motivated at all. My co-teacher and I decided to split the group and have
those interested in visually representing Doctor Faustus (a classical tragedy
in the style of Shakespeare) go off to the art room with me. I had several
ideas for them and they politely and diplomatically came up with their own idea
-- a film of a contemporary tragedy. No problem except we didn't have any
resources or training.
We're still not done, but I thought I'd attach my reflections on this group
-- this is my rough draft of what will be part of a program when we have our
first showing.
These nine kids were failing the course before they started this project --
my reflections show how each of these kids became leaders in this
collaboration. I like reading others' views of their students -- is this something we
can share online sometimes? Or is this boring to you all?
I can't wait to meet some of you in Boston. This group has been wonderful
for me. Thanks for "listening"!!
