Definitely check out the Canon S-60 on Steve's Camera Reviews in Steve's
Camera Reviews. It can shoot macros 1.6 inches from subject, and has a
28 mm wide angle lens to 3.6 optical zoom. It has an automatic
bracketing mode if you wish to bracket, It has an optional underwater
housing if you want to go scuba diving with it. I have been very
impressed with the focusing and white balance options...there are 6
white balance choices. We just got back from Carmel and my photos of
Big Sur and Point Lobs are miles better than on my previous Sony Mavica.
It's a 5 megapixel. It is compact and light weight enough to throw in my
parka pocket, a purse, etc. and be barely aware of it, yet it is not so
small that it feels too tiny in my hand. I love the little sounds it
makes...a soft chime when it turns on, and a very nice shutter sound
(you can turn the sound off if you wish.) I never miss a shot with the
speed of the shutter. It has so many more spiffy features, I hope you
will read about them on Steve's Camera Review pages.
