There are many good digital camera choices so it takes a lot of study
and it is still hard to decide what to buy. I have purchased seven
since they first become available. I currently have two.
For the general use I am very pleased with my the image quality of my
Canon Power Shot s1 IS. It is a mere 3.2 megapixel camera, but it
has a 10x optical zoom lense so you crop with the zoom and keep the
resolution that you have. The IS stands for image stabilization. It
has a gyroscope in that helps prevent camera shake for sharper
pictures. This is important when using a long zoom. I bought it on
the Internet for a 25 percent less than shopping in a store. My cost
was $320 US in November including shipping. This camera got the top
rating in the Consumer Report magazine about three or four months
ago. This web sight gives lots of information and sample pictures.
It makes great 5 x 7 pictures, but I use it more for web pages and 4
x 6 size.
My second camera is not as handy to carry. It is a 6.2 megapixel SLR
Pentax with interchangeable lenses. I already owned a bunch of
lenses for my film camera. I use it for professional work for
Museums, other artists, and some commercial work. If I had not
already owned the lenses, I think I would have bought a similar Canon
because it is priced lower for the same quality.
Hope this helps.
