I stopped a teacher cold with a "so, why is it that they put pictures in the math book?" I know, I know....but even after teaching this long I never tire of having to justify/defend my program for students.

And that is the bottom line, for students. If we don't advocate for them/art who will? I agree with some of the others....part of our "job" is to reach out beyond the classroom...educating our staff, putting text up with displays, taking every opportunity to show work in the community, newspaper articles, etc, etc, etc.

Then, as Woody noted, some folks will just never "get it".....tell your colleague to revel in knowing that he/she is doing the right thing for students...celebrate the successes...and maybe leave a copy of the art standards and benchmarks in the faculty room :-)
