I teach at the high school level 9-12. Recently we had an "alumni day" of which approximately 20 or so graduates came to speak with current seniors and then the faculty about college experiences in relationship to high school. In one of the faculty sessions (my session had been earlier) the discussion came around to art classes and one of the history teachers referred, casually, to the art classes as being "blow-off" classes. My colleague was quite peeved (to put it mildly) and walked out of the discussion when one of the COUNSELORS (!) continued the discussion referring to art classes, also, as "blow-off" classes!!!! That was the last day before our Christmas break. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS as how to deal with this?
