Re: Question about Bookmaking

I did this awhile back. I made up 5 "proto-types" of the books. These were
appx. 2x3.5" (guessing on size here - I just know they are small) and then I
divided the kids into groups. Each group made one type of book. Then they
shared the "how-to" with the other students. As for themes with 7th graders:
jungle theme, words like "lost, mystery, friend" come to mind. We're getting
ready to go out & buy a camcorder (yeah!), so I'll see what other themes I
have stored away. :-)

I'm getting tired of them all looking the same, so I have decided to show
the kids several types of bookmaking techniques and let them choose the
type, shape and size that they would like to make individually. I also have
decided that I want each of their books to have some sort of theme, rather
than it just being a blank book. I don't mind devoting a couple of weeks to
this project, and I have a pretty large inventory of supplies for the
students to work from. My question is has anybody done something like this
before, and if so, what would be some themes that you might suggest for the
books? Any hints or suggestions will be graciously welcomed!
