Thanks for sharing a great success story. These sound like good
methods of classroom management.
You mention how you are using tests to help keep students on task. I
believe tests can be very useful in a number of ways.
In particular, I have been thinking about how tests effect creative
thinking. To help with this this, I have prepared a page that lists
and ranks 8 types of test items. I have tried to arranged them from
most to least creative hoping that we could find ways to use tests to
encourage creative thinking and learning methods.
If you have other ideas for tests for art while encouraging creative
responses, please share them.
I have been thinking about this in the context of "no child left
behind". I am hoping we will get states to including more items that
test creative thinking skills. I think some states already do this
in math and language arts. As states test for creative thinking,
problem solving, and multiple intelligences, we are likely to find
that the schools with strong creative art programs will forge ahead
in the rankings.
