on painting chairs with children

Hoping for advice, wisdom, visuals and so on concerning painting chairs
with children. The chairs will go up for sale or auction (not sure) Each
class will paint one. We've chosen themes. Flowers... Americana... Under
the Sea ... Italy ... ABC's and Numbers ... Handprints ... Florida ... and
others. I've been working on ideas and I'm mostly curious about how to
simplify the images enough so that they will look pretty good even when
painted by those who are just learning how to run a brush.
