wondered if anyone knew of anything that could be used to make the armatures
for Giacometti Style sculptures??? I made them with my 8th grade.....we used
stovepipe wire.....I don't have enough.....and my high school kids want to
make them soooooo bad.....they were great!!! I can't think of anything
else...but coat hangers and that seems like it might be too stiff.....any suggestions
I suggest using pipe cleaners. They are easiest to bend and they work
wonderfully! Wrap aluminum foil around the pipe cleaners, then staple the armature
to a block of wood. Next, wrap plastercraft around the armature. Although I
would prefer plastercraft strips, if you don't have them, then papier mache
would work. Soak torn up brown grocery bags in water overnight, wring out, and
dip in art paste. I'm thinking that the very thiness of Giacometti style
sculptures might just require three or four pipe cleaners together for width, but
maybe not enough. The foil is such a pliable pleasure, your kids will have an
armature in no time.
