Woody, after I finished crying I forwarded your e-mail to my three siblings.
My Dad, my best friend, passed away in May. The problem for me (as well as
my sisters and brother) is we feel that the time we had him (we're all in our
40's and 50's) we just not enough! He was a FABULOUS father, a most wonderful
man- kind, generous, funny, loving and warm so nothing seems ENOUGH to ease
the pain and the longing to have him back. Thank you, however, for sharing
something to which I can truly relate. I knew the last time I spent with him would
probably be the last, as I returned to my home in N.Y, from Boston, where he
was in re-hab. We were lucky to have always told each other how much we loved
each other. Like the father and daughter in the story, we shared that
special verbal connection. The philosophy behind that story parallels my philosophy
that the glass is half full, not half empty. But the reality of loosing
someone you love so much is very difficult.
