Captain Kangaroo + a ?

I, too, have very fond memories of the Captain as well as other "real
characters" that I watched on TV when I was a tike. The Captain, Sally
Starr, Gene London.... I'm sure each locality had models ......
TV doesn't have that now. Cartoons and puppets provide the lessons and the
good ones are diminishing. I'm not going to argue now the power of the
media to influence, but will only say that the power now is used for
promotion that is not not so good.

But my question

I gave a lesson to my Advanced art class. The prompt was to create a new
creature. They were to find characteristics from a minimum of 10
animals/fish/humans and combine those characteristics into a new
configuration. The outcome was very open. Some are doing animations or
video productions, some are making product designs (i.e. for a toy design)
some are illustrating, some are making costumes or puppets ...... it is my
policy that I give the prompt and the solution is the student choice.

Here's my question
One of my students has written the most incredibly little children's book.
The premise is "I wish I could be...." She picked the characteristics and
abilities of several different animals and wrote about being able to have
all of these. It's about wishing ..... it's about angst.... it is
positive and uplifting .... and it made me cry.
I think this kid has touched on something like Captain Kangeroo
and I want to see it go someplace
Anybody have any ideas where I take this? I think it is absolutely
publishable. And I am so proud of the thought and content she put into
this.

Patty
