Middle School Q's: sketchbooks and quizzes

For junior high level teachers only please:

1. Do you assign sketchbook drawings or let them choose their own? How many?

2. Do you give any art quizzes or tests? How many?

Some of my students (8th graders) seem to think I'm the only art teacher to assign sketchbook drawings and give a quiz. I just wanted to get a general idea of how common this is.
