Dear Art Educators,

I found my "permission to use images" letter. I have
removed all mention of my school - just substitute
yours. I will be adding it to my site when I add my
images back on the artists pages.

Subject: Permission to Use Images for School

Dear (Author of site/Artist):

I have read copyright information and feel that the
project I am working on is within legal guidelines. I
am taking a course called "Art Tech" this trimester at
Middle School, Ohio. As part of our career education
unit, we are designing "Web Quest" pages for
individual artists and will design PowerPointŪ
presentations. We would like permission to use a
couple images from your site for our Web pages.
These are the images I wish to use:

Each page that uses your images will have a link to
your site and any other site from which images were
obtained. These pages will be added to Mrs. Decker's
Web Site on our school server and are not registered
with any search engines:

Thank you in advance for your support of this
educational project. Please reply if you do not wish
these images to be used. If you wish, just add "No" to
the subject line and send.

Sincerely,
(your name)
mailto:jdecker@OH.US

Folks - I sent all of the emails out on my email
address and saved them all into a folder as "proof"
that we had "permission". I know I bent the law - but
we would NEVER have gotten anything done if we did it
the "right" way. I got permission to use images on
dozens of dollmakers sites using this same approach. I
posted a permission to use images letter to their list
and told folks who DO NOT want me to use their images
in a PowerPoint to reply. It was SO much easier for me
to deal with three dollmakers than dozens. Only THREE
did not want you using their images and I will never
mention their names to you.
I found one specific image on one site that I wanted
to use -- and asked the member for permission to use
that one image and did not hear from her. THEIR way
does NOT work for teachers. I even posted my request
to their list and she did not respond...but someone
else read my post whose site we DID want to see.
If folks put their email address on their site - I
think they at least have the responsibility to read
the mail that is sent to them. I did meet some truly
Wonderful Dollmakers and will share them all with your
soon.
