It depends upon who is doing the "critters". I don't remember which one it
was, but when I was researching I found that one had artists submit their
ideas and then business's would purchase the critter and choose the design
they wanted on their critter. Thus, it was an honor to be the artist chosen,
and the businesses footed the cost. Seems like the artist got a stipend for
doing the art, but I'm not sure on that part. Anyways, whichever one I saw
that on (was it the pigs???) had elementary schools get to participate
because of the way the thing was set up. I don't know where the money went -
maybe to defray the cost of the sculptures, but just having the critters in
your town is a big tourist attraction. OH, while we are on this subject, has
anyone ever seen anything online about the Atlanta GA baseballs? When I was
there there were giant baseballs everywhere - they were fabulous! I have
never seen anything on them since.
