After years of teaching, I finally discovered the configuration of tables
that best lends to the kids working and my teaching. I have 6 solid wood (with
cream colored laminate tops) 60"x40" long tables that form a "U" shape-two
together on each side. In the middle of the "U" I had the district build me a big
square block with shelving built in underneath on all four sides. This
"table" is my demo area, with matching cream laminate top, and is a little higher
than the work tables. On it I also put the day's supplies. I've assigned each
side of the "U" shelving closest to their tables, and the kids can easily get
scissors, pencils, etc. from those valuable shevles underneath the center
table. At the top of the "U" configuration are the work sinks. Can anyone
picture this, or am I not clear? I also love this configuration because it is easy
for me to walk around and see all that's going on!
