Okay only 2 kids out of 450 didn't have them, yes it is like a missing
assign. They have to pay for a new one around $4.50 if they loose it.
The kids have pin back and the teachers and staff have magnet back, it
is rather cool. It looks like a pin but the back comes off completely
and you put it under your shirt and it sticks to the other side on the
front of your shirt. They just know they have to wear it and everyone
does.
It was started a few years ago to get the older kids and the younger
kids to socialize with each other more. Since then they are more apt to
talk to someone that they don't know because their name is on their
shirt. however the paint shirts tend to cover them.
They also have friends day twice a year. Which means that all the kids
are divided into groups of
1-8 one kid from each grade makes up a group and they do special
activities together all day with their group.
They also have a tab system for 3,4,5th grades (maybe more) in which
they get a certain amount of tabs (slips) in a week. If they misbehave
they get tabs removed, there are consequences if they loose all, but I'm
not sure what, I think its up to the teacher. For instance if something
(E.G.) happened in art class deliberately painted on someone's picture
you could say you owe me 4 tabs, then they give it to you and you write
the offense on it. You either give it to the teacher or the kid does and
you tell the teacher. Wish the older kids had something like that. They
get like silent lunches and kicked out of class, I have 2 desks in my
classroom where I have a drawing folder with drawing exercises.
