Excellent point. I have enjoyed the discussion.
I do an abstraction lesson that is based on making symbols for words, and
using those words to make a statement about ourselves, then combining the
symbols used, editing them to make a new design, and using that as the basis
for an abstract painting. It gives middle school kids a safe way to express
things that only they and I know, and the paintings turn out great. I
haven't done that yet this year, I think this will be a good group to try
it.
