"Hmmm, I wonder if I have any white powdered tempera in that cupboard I've
been ignoring. ....Ideas???

Hi Michal, I'm using chalk with liquid white tempera with my third grade
students. We're looking at Impressionism, primarily Monet. The cool
things about this technique: students are able to produce some interesting
looking "brush strokes" with the moistened chalk. We're able to keep a clear
palette, similar to Monet's. Students are creating some beautiful "watery"
paintings. When it's dry, it also has an impasto look and is more painting-like
than chalk-like. Hope this makes sense. Oh, by the way - it's messy as can
be. And use a textured paper. The kids are loving working with it.
