I should add that often pysanky eggs are inaccurately labeled Easter eggs.
Although today the eggs have become a traditional Easter-time gifts, it is
appropriate to make the eggs year round. When I taught pysanky to sixth
graders, I opted to teach the process in the fall so that the eggs didn't
develop the stigma of a holiday craft. We tied pysanky into social studies
lessons about the Ukraine.

Also, we used real eggs ... raw, not boiled. Planning was on paper, but we
went to great lengths to learn the actual process and used kistkas, beeswax,
candles and dyes.
