Thanks to everyone who has posted today about my chalk and buttermilk question. I did end up driving to the grocery and buying some buttermilk for some experimenting. I can't get it to work! I tried brushing the buttermilk on the paper as well as dipping the chalks; the buttermilk prevents the chalk from making any kind of mark on the paper at all. I then tried it with actual pastel chalks and it works fine. This technique is supposed to work with colored drawing chalk, regular pastels are too expensive for this.
I also tried the sugar water technique that was posted and got some interesting results. At first it looks like the chalks aren't putting down any color but if you wait a minute the color all of a sudden appears.
I can't figure out why I'm not getting the buttermilk to work?
Thanks,
Kathy
