I don't do contests either - for two reasons. The first is that these
contests rarely fit into my curriculum. The second reason is that the people
running these contests are really looking for cheap art. They don't treat
the student artwork as if it has value. They rarely send the artwork back,
and they do not compensate the students who's artwork was trashed. I feel
that if I truly want my students to value their own artwork then I need to
lead by example and not let their efforts go into the trash can.
