Hi Judy,

Here are the notes that I took regarding a fundraising art project that was
presented at NAEA in NY 2 years ago. It might be helpful to Maureen:

Linda Keeling - Creative Advocacy and Funding
Middle level teacher (Rosemount Ridge MS in Oregon)

Cross curriculum projects for raising money - District supported / building
supported

Silent auction - sale of chairs constructed from found materials / donated
materials- reformed chairs as art pieces / sculptures - created by 7th
graders - possible using of chair jewelry for 8th grade project

Clay chairs used as pre sale - inspired by artists¹ work: worked on by 6th
graders: sold for $20.00 apiece (³chair - ity auction)

Cultural food provided for auction bidders - food reflected foreign
language offerings

Minimum bid of $10 - maximum sale was $190 - raised $1800 - money used for
all arts programs (inclusive of phy ed.) - some money used for materials to
work on chairs the following year

Bid sheets kept on record - donation

Music / dance performances incorporated as part of presentation

Chairs collected year ahead of time - storage an issue

Chairs stripped - at home if chemicals needed / sanded prior to working on
redesigning

Kids / parents bring in chairs

Resource - ³Thousand Chairs² - museum bookstore

Theme needs to fit selected chair - 4 preliminary sketches required

Emphasis on form and function / craftsmanship

Stools in art rooms painted as Œmasterworks¹ - painted with acrylic paint
and sealed with acrylic sealant
