I've been asked several times this week if I'm interested in being the Reading Mentor for our school if we get the challenge grant, since they will most probably eliminate my visual arts position. No thank you. I think some who have asked are afraid I may bump them out of their classroom. Some have asked if I will retire. Yeah, right, with a kid just starting college next year?
BTW did you hear about the middle school kids who ODed on Corcidin last week? The one that made the news and paper was my student last year. When he was in 3rd grade he fell off the train (light rail) because he was drunk! Yet, he was one of my most talented and creative 5th graders (when he showed up), And I never had any trouble with him. Go figure.
