Exactly...one thing that happened this past week is that someone from achievement first came to present the "basic model" to our staff. One person asked about the extended literacy block and how that would affect the schedule (especially pertaining to planning time). They said that normally the "special areas" would go into the classrooms in the am, but that we could actually do it a different way. The teachers here value their time that the kids have with me (but not necessarily because it's art, but it is their planning), and it seems like right now i may not have to go teach reading after all! But, we'll see what we'll see, right? Meantime...don't give up the fight...these kids need art just as much as literacy and i'm looking into visual literacy as a "way out" of taking art from the kids!

Aaron,
I'm pretty sure that we're going to be a challenge grant school, too. I'm
also pretty That that I won't have my art job either. And get this, according
to the guidelines of having 90 min. per day of literacy... the 90 min. is NOT
to include writing. Since when is WRITING not literacy???
