Hello JNO and Judy D,
The conversation started with my asking the list member (BJ Berquist)
who posts the Scout Reports if she knows of any sites for medical
illustration. Another member, Judy Decker, replied by posting some sites
for me. Thanks, Judy! My personal interest in medical illustration was
rekindled within the past two years due to health issues and a volunteer job
I am now doing at the OSU medical library in Columbus. In high school (in
the early1960's) I did research on a future career in medical illustration,
but I did not pursue this course in college. I have always admired these
drawings/photo images and now (with retirement,) since I have access--and
time-- to study them, I want some leads on places to search. Thank you for
the information on Boedel. I will start there and will welcome any more
information you may have.
This past summer there was a terrific travelling exhibit here at the
Medical Heritage Center on images of neuroscience. My first volunteer task
was packing up the works to send to their next venue, Johns Hopkins
University. It may still be there, for those of you in the Washington, DC,
Baltimore area.

I didn't catch the beginning of this conversation about Medical Illustration
but can add ...
I further studied my work by visiting John's Hopkins University Medical
Illustration Department to see first hand the drawings of Boedel who
invented the clay coated paper used with graphite shavings to get a true
photograhic image. There were only 5 undergraduate programs in the country
and they were mostly in the East because that is where the publishing houses
are located. I enjoyed working with this and would love to know what you
are doing with Medical Illustrations. JNO New York
