Denver, Colorado has a unique program through the Museum of Outdoor Arts
called "Design and Build." It is a competition for High School Students
involving designing a piece of site specific public art, projecting building
costs, planning the process, and making moquettes. If a school is chosen,
the students have the opportunity to build it.
Back when I student taught, my cooperating teacher was very involved in this
project and it was a great way for students to learn about and create public
art. It was a such a positive learning experience for the students and
teachers both. I just found out there is also a Design and Build program for
Elementary students which is exciting to me, since I now teach Elementary
level.
