We made bound sketchbooks and punched holes for sewing the binding. I used a
tool my husband gave me...a punch drill. I put a thick pad of newspaper on
the counter. Had them draw 6 guide marks along the binding side of the
signatures. Then we punch-drilled the holes. 5 punches went through 30 sheets
of Xerox paper very easily. The various bits are stored in the handle. I got
it at Sears. It works by holding the drill perfectly perpendicular to the
paper and pushing down. Each push advances the drill. It was quick and the
kids loved using it (6-8th and up). It is so easy to use that I think lower
grades can do it.
