Re: Yarn buying (for weaving)

Maysville Rug Filler is a quality soft thick yarn that I used every year
for my K-5's. For medium weight I liked Softspun. These are a bit pricey but
worth it. They come in skeins. (Be careful about ordering wool or wool
blended yarns, due to allergic reactions.) I taught intermediate level
(grades 3-5) students how to roll them into balls. We had a regular
lunchtime and recess group in the art room every day until all the skeins
were wound and stored.
As for colors, most elementary students love the bright and bold colors.
Keep extras on hand for the seasonal times, like white, black, red, orange,
pink, green and blue. School colors are important, too. If there is a
college or pro team in your area, those team colors will appeal to the
students.
I ordered my yarns and needles mostly from Dick Blick, and occasionaly
from Sax. The student population and art budget determined what I could
order for a year. I was very frugal with the yarn.
